Petals & Power — From Behind the Camera to In Front of It
If you know me, you know one thing:
Curling my hair takes forever.
Every single time I do it, I question my life choices halfway through. It’s a commitment. It’s arm workout level effort. But I love how I feel when it’s done. There’s just something about taking that extra time for myself that shifts my mood.
When I decided to photograph this Petals & Power concept on myself, I’ll be honest — I was nervous.
It’s one thing to guide other women into feeling confident in front of my camera. It’s another thing to step into that vulnerable space yourself.
Even as a photographer, I had the same thoughts so many of you probably have:
Is my hair okay?
Should I have waited until I felt “more in shape”?
Is this flattering?
But I curled my hair anyway. I showed up anyway.
And something changed.
The session itself felt empowering. Simple. Intentional. There’s something powerful about sitting on a stool, holding flowers, and allowing yourself to just exist without hiding.
When I left the studio, I felt good.
When I started editing the images? I felt even better.
Not because they were “perfect.” Not because I suddenly looked different.
But because I saw strength. Softness. Confidence. Art.
And honestly? It lit a little fire under me. It reminded me that I want to keep showing up for myself — eating a little better, moving my body more, taking care of myself — not from a place of insecurity, but from a place of pride.
And the best part?
I am still in love with so many of the images exactly as they are. Right now. In this season.
That’s what Petals & Power is about.
Not waiting.
Not fixing.
Not shrinking.
Just choosing yourself.
